Concorso per la produzione di spettacoli per planetari


L’Associazione Amici dei Planetari, allo scopo di favorire la partecipazione all’Eugenides Foundation Scriptwriting Competition, per la produzione di spettacoli per planetari, anche di lavori scritti da autori italiani, indice una selezione nazionale di opere per planetari che si affianca al concorso internazionale organizzato dall’International Planetarium Society. Gli autori italiani interessati a partecipare al concorso internazionale possono quindi inviare direttamente le loro opere al concorso internazionale dell'IPS, se tradotte in inglese, oppure inviarle in lingua italiana alla segreteria della selezione nazionale. Infatti l’opera giudicata come la migliore dalla commissione nominata dall’Associazione amici dei planetari verrà tradotta in lingua inglese a cura dell’AAP.


Regolamento per partecipare al concorso internazionale.

Generale

A
 Per incoraggiare la produzione di spettacoli al planetario l’IPS (International Planetarium Society) indice un concorso per sceneggiature sponsorizzato dalla Fondazione Eugenides di Atene, Grecia.
B
 Ogni attuale membro iscritto IPS potrà partecipare con una o più composizioni
C
 Le opere che si aggiudicheranno il primo e il secondo premio resteranno di proprietà degli autori, ma l’IPS si riserva il diritto di pubblicarle sulla rivista dell’associazione, Planetarian


REGOLAMENTO E PROCEDURE:

 Non saranno ammesse composizioni non originali o già presentate in altri contesti
B
 Gli autori dovranno comporre i testi in sei copie da distribuire nel seguente modo:
  • Una copia per l’archivio della Fondazione Eugenides.
  • Una copia per l’archivio IPS.
  • Una copia per ciascuno dei tre Giudici.
  • Una copia per il Coordinatore del concorso.
  • Una singola copia elettronica può sostituire le sei su carta, ma, in ogni caso, una copia cartacea del modulo di iscrizione dovrà comunque essere inviata.

 Il Coordinatore del concorso sceglierà i tre giudici fra i membri dell’IPS, i quali daranno un voto a ogni composizione secondo i criteri esposti qui di seguito.
Il Coordinatore, poi, sommerà i punteggi e decreterà i vincitori
I nomi degli autori saranno mantenuti segreti dai giudici

I due autori vincitori del concorso verranno premiati con un attestato e con il premio in denaro alla conferenza biennale dell' IPS

Ogni opera dovrà essere così composta:

1. Modulo di iscrizione firmato
2. Pagina di copertina con Titolo dell’opera, Nome dell’autore, Associazione, Indirizzo, Telefono/fax, E-mail, Numero di pagine totali.
Il nome dell’autore non dovrà comparire su nessun’altra pagina.
3. I testi dovranno essere in inglese, con le indicazioni per il materiale visivo (diapositive, foto, videoclips, etc.) scritte sul lato sinistro dei fogli e la narrazione vera e propria sul lato destro.
Scrivere i testi a macchina o computer, con righe a spaziatura doppia, righe e pagine numerate
(un modello è disponibile su ips-planetarium.org/).
Sulla prima pagina descrivere gli scopi e gli obbiettivi che il lavoro si propone di raggiungere.
4. La durata della composizione dovrà essere di 25 minuti, comprensivi di 5 minuti di presentazione dal vivo, diapositive, segmenti video, panoramiche, proiezioni complete di cieli e stelle.
5. Se i requisiti sopraindicati non saranno soddisfatti l’opera sarà squalificata


CRITERI DI VALUTAZIONE

  • I Giudici valuteranno ogni composizione secondo i seguenti criteri:
  • Chiarezza e stile di scrittura
  • Accuratezza e correttezza linguistica del testo
  • Originalità del soggetto e della presentazione
  • Focalizzazione dei punti topici del tema trattato
  • Livello globale di interesse
  • Raggiungimento o meno degli obiettivi proposti

Regolamento per partecipare alla selezione nazionale.
Per partecipare alla selezione nazionale del concorso inviare i testi, in lingua italiana, e le informazioni richieste dal bando originale dell’Eugenides Foundation Scriptwriting Competition, in quattro copie, all'Associazione amici dei planetari (AAP), c/o Centro studi e ricerche Serafino Zani, via Bosca 24, 25066 Lumezzane.
La partecipazione è gratuita.

Una apposita commissione, nominata dall'AAP, selezionerà l'opera giudicata migliore tra quelle pervenute.

I nomi dei partecipanti alla selezione nazionale verranno tenuti segreti dalla commissione, in accordo con il regolamento della competizione internazionale, i cui membri si impegnano a non diffondere le opere ricevute salvo esplicita autorizzazione degli autori. Quando saranno noti i vincitori della competizione internazionale verrà pubblicamente citato anche l’autore scelto nel corso della selezione nazionale.

L’opera giudicata come la migliore dalla commissione nazionale verrà tradotta in inglese a cura dell’AAP e l’autore verrà iscritto all’IPS, sempre a spese dell’AAP. In questo modo l’autore dell’opera selezionata potrà presentare il suo lavoro entro il 31 dicembre 2007 al concorso internazionale.

Ogni partecipante alla selezione nazionale, e quindi non solo quello dell’opera selezionata, potrà comunque prendere parte al concorso internazionale, quando saranno noti i risultati della selezione nazionale, iscrivendosi all’IPS e inviando il testo in lingua inglese come richiesto dal regolamento dell’Eugenides Foundation Scriptwriting Competition.

Le opere pervenute alla selezione nazionale potranno essere conservate, al termine della competizione internazionale, presso l’Archivio Nazionale Planetari previa autorizzazione degli autori.

Il testo dell’opera selezionata a livello nazionale, una volta resi noti i vincitori della competizione internazionale, verrà pubblicamente presentata, previa autorizzazione dell’autore, attraverso una lettura recitata al Planetario di Lumezzane.

La selezione nazionale ha quindi il solo scopo di favorire la partecipazione all’Eugenides Foundation Scriptwriting Competition anche di lavori scritti da autori italiani.

More prize money, less rules. Those are the two main headline changes for the new, greatly improved IPS/Eugenides Foundation scriptwriting competition.

I’d like to thank Dennis Simopolous who worked with the Eugenides Foundation on behalf of the IPS to increase the total amount of prize money. It now stands at $1350, with a whopping $1000 given to the First Place script and $350 to the Second Place script. This makes the prize money competitive with some other science writing competitions. Just think, $1000 would pay for a conference and more, so hold that thought as you read on.

When I took over the reigns as the competition’s Coordinator before the last competition was held, I was struck by the size of the task we were asking writers to perform in meeting twenty very stringent evaluative criteria, which were elements their scripts had to include or show good awareness of. Though I love to write even I reeled back in horror at the thought of having to produce a script to meet all those requirements, and they also made the scripts difficult to mark for the three judges. So, following the conclusion of the last competition I put together a report for the IPS Council with input from Alex Barnett, April Whitt, Jim Manning and Dr George Reed, in which I listed a number of areas in the competition’s format and rules that we felt needed strengthening. Council agreed and asked me to implement those changes, some of which related to shortening the evaluative criteria. At the end of these introductory remarks I’ve listed the competition’s new, shortened rules and evaluative criteria and I hope you’ll agree they look much more attractive. (For comparison purposes, the last competition’s rules were listed in the March 2001 Planetarian.) Please read these new rules carefully, as there are many changes.

If you should misplace this current copy of Planetarian but want to remind yourself of the rules, get copies of the release form or the blank, formatted script page layout, you can see them on the IPS web page (ips-planetarium.org/). I’ll send out occasional reminders about the competition to Dome-L, IPS News and the regional conferences.

So please give consideration to writing a script for the competition. It only needs to be 25 minutes in length (that’s almost half of the previously required length) and there are far fewer criteria to meet. And you’ve got nine months to write it, so the task is not large but the potential reward is. What’s more, if you co-write a script with a colleague the work will be halved, so what more can you ask for? Answers on a postcard to…

COMPETITION GUIDELINES

1. General

To encourage excellence in planetarium show production, the IPS announce a
scriptwriting competition sponsored by the Eugenides Foundation in Athens, Greece. Scripts are requested for school shows only, on the subject of the Solar System. You can write about any individual body in the Solar System, or about the system of bodies as a whole. No other subjects please. The target age group is 11-14.

Any currently enrolled IPS member may enter one or more scripts.
The First and Second prize scripts remain the author’s property, but the IPS retains the right to publish them in Planetarian.

2. Contest Rules and Procedures
Previously submitted scripts, or material published elsewhere, are not allowed.
Writers should submit six copies of each script to the contest’s Coordinator: one copy for the Eugenides Foundation’s files, one copy for the IPS files and one copy each for the three judges and the Coordinator. A single electronic copy may be substituted for the hard copies, but a hard copy of the release form must still be mailed.
The contest Coordinator will choose from the IPS Fellows three judges to mark each entry based on the criteria set out below, and the Coordinator will then quantify the totals to determine the winners. The author’s names will be kept anonymous from the judges.
Entries may be submitted between July 1 and December 31, 2005. Please mail scripts to: Steve Tidey, 58 Prince Avenue, Southend, Essex, SS2 6NN, England. The two winning authors will be recognised during the awards ceremony at the 2006 IPS conference in Melbourne, Australia, where they will receive a certificate and prize money.
All scripts must conform to the following format:
A signed release form must accompany the script.
Attach a cover page giving the script’s title, author’s name, institution, address, telephone/fax number, email address and the number of pages. Do not put author’s name on any other page.
Scripts should be written in English with the directions for visuals (slides, panoramas, video clips, etc.) in the left hand column, and the narration in the right hand column, typed or computer printed, double-spaced, with line numbers and pages numbered. (A template is available at ips-planetarium.org/). Place a paragraph on page one that states the script’s goals and purpose.
The length should be 25 minutes, and include a five-minute live segment, incorporate slides and/or video segments, pans, all skies and basic star projector functions.
If the above requirements are not met, a script may be disqualified.

3. Evaluative Criteria

In the assumption that the above criteria for submission has been met, the judges will evaluate each script based on: a clear writing style, factual accuracy, the correct use of grammar, originality in presentation and content, a maintained focus on the script’s core topic, overall entertainment value, and, whether or not the script has achieved the author’s stated goals.
